01 ENVIRONMENT
Carole Migden authored the Clean Water Act, imposing tough fines on industrial polluters to stop them from dumping toxins in waterways. She won $250 million to purchase the Headwaters Forest and secured $30 million to restore Bay Area wetlands.
02 CRIME
Carole Migden's law creating the DNA database has taken rapists off the streets. She has helped ensure that female victims of sexual assault receive information about the morning-after pill. And she is fighting for tougher gun control laws.
03 EQUALITY
Carole Migden created the domestic partner registry that now carries almost every state benefit afforded to married couples. At the Board of Equalization, she strengthened domestic partners property rights.
04 EDUCATION
Believing that schools should provide an equal education for everyone, Carole Migden has fought for school funding and increased college opportunity. She has worked to expand vocational education in our schools and to bring more technology to classrooms.
05 WAR IN IRAQ
When Move-on.org needed help, they came to Carole Migden. She passed a Senate resolution, making California the first state in the nation to formally oppose the surge of troops in Iraq.
06 CONSUMER PROTECTION
Carole's "Safe Cosmetics Law" won national recognition for requiring that cosmetic manufacturers disclose cancer causing agents. To ensure consumers can make informed choices about nutrition, Carole has developed legislation to require clear labeling of food products derived from cloned animals.
07 HEALTH CARE
Carole Migden strengthened the Confidentiality of Medical Information Act and wrote a law giving patients the right to an independent review when HMOs deny services. She also wrote laws for HIV testing and treatment programs.
