Carole Migden is serving her first term in the State Senate. She currently chairs the Labor and Industrial Relations Committee and the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Before her election to the Senate, Carole served as Chairwoman of the California Board of Equalization (BOE), where she worked to modernize California’s tax system, strengthen domestic partners property rights and protect open space.
Carole Migden has a long environmental record. During her tenure as a California State Assemblymember, she authored the Clean Water Act and won millions in funding to buy the Headwaters Forest Preserve and its 1000 year old trees. In the Assembly, Migden was selected to Chair the Appropriations Committee––the first woman and first freshman to chair that committee.
Carole has authored laws to create California’s domestic partner registry; develop a DNA database to take rapists off the streets; provide the right to information about the morning-after pill; and protect the confidentiality of our medical records.
Earlier this year Carole worked with Move-on.org to make California the first state in the nation to oppose the surge of troops in Iraq.
Carole has received numerous awards and honors for her service. She was named “Legislator of the Year” by California National Organization for Women (NOW) and California School Employees Association. The California Journal named her “Rookie of the Year” in 1998 giving her top honors in the categories of integrity, most intelligence, hardest working and most influential.
Prior to her election to the Assembly, Carole Migden served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
The 3rd Senate District, which Carole represents, comprises the eastern half of San Francisco, all of Marin County and portions of Sonoma County, including Petaluma, Cotati and Rohnert Park. |
